On July 27, 2016. we presented a hydrologic - hydraulic mathematical model for River Sava til border to Republic of Serbia

Within the framework of project "Continuation of activities aimed at establishing systems for flood forecasting in the Sava River Basin in Croatia" contracted with the Croatian Water and DHMZ, on 07/27/2016. in the premises of Croatian Water in Zagreb professional presentation of mathematical model of the Sava River was held, created as a part of the Sava river project in Croatia to the border with Serbia.

Next to the participation of the highest representatives of the Croatian Waters, DHMZ, the Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Environment and Nature Protection, as well as representatives of the International Sava River Basin Commission, the presentation was attended by representatives of Bosnia and Herzegovina and it’s key institutions of the Federation and the Republic of Srpska: Agency for Sava river basin Sarajevo (AVPs), Federal Hydro-meteorological Institute (FHMZ) Sarajevo, Public Institution Serbian Waters (JUVS) Bijeljina and the Republic Hydro-meteorological Service of the Republic of Srpska (RHMS)) Banja Luka, without whose participation in the model would not be complete nor had the necessary quality.

For the first time in the practice of Croatian waters, the comprehensive hydrological - hydraulic mathematical model of Sava river throughout Republic of Croatia is built that is able to, based on the physical parameters, simulate a non-steady flow in rivers and canals. The model was created by a consortium Proning DHI and DHI with exceptional cooperation and assistance of the Croatian Water and DHMZ.

The model is robust and stable and as such adjusted to work in the on-line mode for the purposes of forecasting flood waves to complete the Sava River Basin in the Republic of Croatia.
The model is calibrated and verification carried on the historical sets of measured data, which has further highlighted the need for further measurements of hydrologic parameters with field and LIDAR surveying and the necessary work on the collection of quality data to improve the reliability of the model was as much. As a possible continuation of the model is we presented the possibility of creating a model for mapping of flood risk in space and real time, which is not the subject of this project and for which it is necessary to provide additional information of higher quality.

In accordance with the plan of further work on the project, the model will continue to improve, test and connect with on-line data for the purpose of conducting Forecast in real time.

It was concluded that the model is planning to continue to work, to improve, and continually replenished with the latest data.
In the discussion following the presentation, all participants are positively determined to joint cooperation and exchange of information on a common platform and engineering tools. Representatives of the Sava Commission stated that at the end of March 2017 LIDAR recordings whose production was launched through their programs, will be available forwarded to the use and further development of this model and other purposes.

It has been also been confirmed that the actual Sava river model will be used to develop a joint system for flood forecasting in the Sava River Basin to be implemented by the International Sava River Basin Commission through the international project "Establishing a system for flood forecasting and early warning system on the Sava River Basin", financed by the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF) for the needs of the state, the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Montenegro, as a direct beneficiary, and the Republic of Slovenia and the Croatian, as indirect beneficiary.

Project completion is scheduled for December 2016
